After you buy your equipment, obtain licensing

First, select your business structure: Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLC or Corporation.

The above step is important business all documents will be filed under the type of business organizational structure. After that, you will need to obtain a business permit.

This is a general business permit that all new businesses must obtain.

Note that in the majority of the cases you do not need to obtain a business permit that is specifically for your type of business.

You only need a general business permit.

In addition, all businesses must be identified by a business tax ID called a federal tax ID number or Employer Identification Number (EIN). If you file as a sole proprietor, you can use your social security number instead of the federal ID.

Then, a seller's permit is required if you sell embroidery items wholesale or retail.

The seller's permit is also called state ID, wholesale ID, resale ID, or re-seller license.

If you are an employer, you will need a federal employer Number and a State Employer Number.

Here is a suggested price list for your items:

Finally, you have the option or incorporating or forming an LLC. Setting up as one of these corporate entities allows you not to file a DBA.

Online embroidery selling T shirts, baseball caps, sweaters, Tote bags, jackets with my own designs nation wide.

Hey Marion, congrats on starting your online embroidery business selling T-shirts, baseball caps, sweaters, tote bags, jackets, and other cool stuff. Your gear will be a hit nationwide! Your business is under the NAICS code 541430 for Graphic Design Services, which is projected to grow 3.8% annually.

Embroidery is a lucrative and exciting business with a high potential for growth. Now, let's get you the lowdown on the licensing requirements for your home-based business in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, FL.

"Behind every successful business is a substantial amount of coffee." As a new business owner, you'll need to ensure that your business is compliant with local regulations. You'll need a few permits and licenses to get started.

First, you'll need to obtain a Business License. The cost of a business license can range from $50 to $400 depending on the county you are in. Secondly, if you're planning on selling products to the public, you'll need to apply for a Sales Tax Permit. In Florida, the sales tax rate is 6%, so make sure to factor that in when pricing your goods.

The permit can be obtained on our legal filings site, run by a licensed attorney with 30 years of experience in obtaining government-issued licenses. We offer affordable rates because we believe in supporting the growth of small businesses like yours.

Next up is the Occupancy Permit. This permit ensures that your home business complies with fire and building safety codes. You may also need a Zoning Permit to ensure that your business is located in a commercial zone.

A commercial zone is an area that allows businesses to operate legally. Zoning laws can vary by location, so make sure to check with your local government to confirm.

Finally, you'll need a Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) if you plan to hire employees. An EIN is a unique nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to businesses for tax purposes. It's free to apply for an EIN on the IRS website.

In terms of cost, you can expect to pay around $100-$500 for your business licenses and permits. It's important to note that the cost can vary depending on the county you are located in.

You'll also need to purchase equipment and supplies such as an embroidery machine, thread, needles, and stabilizers. The cost of these items can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the quality and features of the equipment you purchase.

In terms of insurance, you'll need to obtain business liability insurance and property insurance. Business liability insurance protects your business against financial losses resulting from lawsuits or claims made by clients or customers.

Property insurance protects your business assets against damage or loss. The cost of insurance can vary based on the coverage you need, but expect to pay between $500 to $1,000 annually.

When it comes to marketing, you have a lot of options. Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok can be great tools to showcase your products and gain new customers. You can also create an online store on platforms like Etsy or Amazon to sell your products.

Pricing your items can be tricky, but you should factor in the cost of materials, labor, and overhead when setting prices. A good rule of thumb is to mark up the cost of the product by 50-100%. So, if it costs you $10 to make a T-shirt, you should price it at $20-$30.

In conclusion, starting an embroidery business is exciting, but it's essential to ensure that you have all the necessary licenses and permits.

You can choose to be a(n) Embroidery :

  • Sole Proprietor,
  • LLC,
  • Corporation or
  • Partnership.
After you decide and select your business entity, you need licensing.

Molino Business Tax Registration ( Business License)
All businesses including home, online or mobile BUSINESS need a BUSINESS license because they are BUSINESSES.

A(n) Embroidery business using a DBA Doing Business As Trade Name in Escambia County , i.e., starting businesses using a company name other than the legal (given name) owner's name, need a(n) DBA Doing Business As Trade Name Registration. ย  For example, you start a(n) Embroidery business and you call it "Ultra Embroidery Co". You will need to file a trade firm name for it.

Also, keep in mind that in FL though, a business license and a DBA is necessary for most businesses but if your business sells any taxable items, you will need a sales tax ID number. ย (A.K.A state id, wholesale, resale, reseller certificate, about $39 for most states).
Seller's Permit

Note: All businesses need a federal tax ID number except sole proprietors that are not employers and are not independent contractors.
An independent contractor is a self employed business person that receives more than $600 per year from anyone of his or her clients.
IRS rule: The client must issue a 1099 form to the independent contractor and the independent contractor must have a federal tax ID. However, even sole owners may obtain a federal ID and use it as a business tax ID instead of using their own social security number as a business tax ID number.
However, all other licenses that apply to sole proprietors as discussed here are requited regardless of getting a federal tax ID number.

If you are thinking of hiring help, you will need a state employer ID and an IRS number employer ID. I.e., a FL Federal Tax Id Number ($29) ย and a(n) FL ย State Employer Tax Numberย ย

Instead of filing a fictitious business name DBA Filing (about $49 plus state and legal newspaper publication fees) in Molino,ย Incorporate in FL ย orย form a(n) FL LLC

If you will set up a corporation or form an LLC, you will not have to file a DBA (Doing Business As) unless your corproration or LLC name will be different that the busienss name you will trade under. Businesses that use the full legal name of the owner as a business name do not need to register an assumed business name. So, for example, your name is "John X Doe" and you use that as a business name.

If you do form an Online Selling Stuff llc or incorporate (about $49 plus state fees for most states) your Embroidery business instead of just filing a fictitious business name (dba), it will help you avoid legal and financial personal liability arising out of business transactions and you will not have to register the Molino business name. Instead of filing a Escambia County fictitious business name (our service fee includes dba business name filing and legal paper publication) you can elect to incorporate in FL or form an FL LLC (starts @ $49 plus state fee for most states & includes bylaws and LLC operating agreement)..
